Islamabad – The Beautiful Capital of Pakistan

A Masterpiece of Nature, Modernity, Culture & Architecture

Welcome to Islamabad

Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan, is one of the most beautiful, cleanest, and most organized capitals in the world. Located against the stunning backdrop of the Margalla Hills, Islamabad is designed with perfection, featuring wide avenues, green belts, fresh air, modern architecture, and a peaceful atmosphere seldom found in major capitals.

Built in the 1960s to replace Karachi as the capital, Islamabad today stands as a symbol of modern Pakistan — a blend of nature, culture, architecture, and modern living. The city's environment, safety, greenery, and urban planning make it Pakistan's most livable city. Islamabad is not only an administrative center but also a hub of education, culture, tourism, and international diplomacy.

History & Heritage

Before Islamabad was built, the capital of Pakistan was Karachi. In 1958, Pakistan decided to shift the capital for strategic, geographic, and administrative reasons. The city was designed by Constantinos A. Doxiadis, a renowned Greek architect, based on the concept of "Doxiades Dynapolis (The Dynamic City)".

Construction began in 1961, and Islamabad became Pakistan's official capital in 1967. Although Islamabad is young, the region around it is thousands of years old, including Taxila (one of the world's oldest civilizations), Saidpur Village (a 500-year-old settlement), Mughal-era routes and structures, and ancient Buddhist monasteries. This blend of ancient history and modern architecture is what makes Islamabad unique.

Culture & Traditions

Islamabad is home to people from every province — Punjab, Sindh, KP, Balochistan, GB, and AJK. It is multicultural, educated, peaceful, and cosmopolitan. The city hosts art galleries and exhibitions, music concerts and festivals, craft and cultural shows at Lok Virsa, technology and book fairs, creating a calm, polite, and educated social environment.

Islamabad is also home to diplomats from more than 90 countries, giving the city an international feel. The lifestyle includes healthy outdoor activities, hiking trails, cycling paths, parks everywhere, cafés, libraries, embassies, modern malls, and safe and peaceful neighborhoods.
